Wildwing

Author: Emily Whitman

Addy is teased at school because everyone is above her socially, so when she goes back in time and is mistaken for the king's ward, Lady Matilda, she couldn't be happier. If she goes along with it then she gets beautiful gowns, priceless jewels, and respect from everyone. Then her world turns over when she meets Will, the falconer's son who messes up everything. Addy finds herself in a world where everything is not what it seems. She is not the only one with a dangerous secret. From hidden conspiracies and spies, Addy take matters into her own hands and find out the truth. The stakes are high: true love and the life that she was meant to live. I love this book! From safety to danger and true love. I would give it an 8 1/2.

For Parents: There is a small amount of violance so I would suggest 12+.

Snow-Walker

Author: Catherine Fisher

From the land of ice and snow beyond the edge of the world comes Gudrun, one of the Snow-Walkers, to rule the people through fear and magic. She has a secret though, the son, Kari, who she banished to an abandoned fortress called Thrasirshall; the son who is rumored to be a monster. Then Gudrun sends two children there because their fathers were loyal to the true leader. Jessa and Thorkil have to survive the dangerous journey to Thrasirshall. If they do make it what will they find? A man? A beast? A way to stop Gudrun? I liked this book. It wasn't my favorite but don't let that stop you from reading it.

In a Heartbeat

Author: Loretta Ellsworth

When Eagan dies during a figure-skating competition, she leaves a lot of loose ends. When she goes to heaven she gets to go through all of her memories while her heart still beats. Amelia finds out that she has to get a heart transplant in order to stay alive, but she feels guilty that while her family is rejoicing another family will be heartbroken and mourning. Then she starts to take on some of her donor's characteristics she starts to wonder if her donor is trying to tell her something. One of the most toughing and beautiful stories that I have ever read. It made me cry, but they were happy tears. It was just so beautiful and simple being told from the point of view of two sweet girls. I loved it so much; it made my heart just ache.

For Parents: This depends on how well your child will take it. I would suggest that you read it first.

Plain Kate

Author: Erin Bow

Plain Kate Lives in a world of superstitions and witches. Plain Kate is the daughter of a woodcarver and she could hold a carving knife before she could hold a spoon, and the villagers call her witch-blade because her wooden charms are so well made. This nickname is dangerous because witches are hunted and burned at the stake. When Kate's father dies she is left to the stares of the villagers who start to blame her for their hard times. Then a stranger comes to town, he offers her a chance to escape in exchange for her shadow. It's a chance for Kate to start over in a land where no one knows her, but Kate realizes that she can't remain shadowless for long and that the stranger's intentions are darker than she could have ever imagined. This is the book of adventure and magic. A book of prejudice and revenge. I like this book but it wasn't my favorite, it made me cry in one part.

For Parents: This has some violence in it 13+.
