Plain Kate

Author: Erin Bow

Plain Kate Lives in a world of superstitions and witches. Plain Kate is the daughter of a woodcarver and she could hold a carving knife before she could hold a spoon, and the villagers call her witch-blade because her wooden charms are so well made. This nickname is dangerous because witches are hunted and burned at the stake. When Kate's father dies she is left to the stares of the villagers who start to blame her for their hard times. Then a stranger comes to town, he offers her a chance to escape in exchange for her shadow. It's a chance for Kate to start over in a land where no one knows her, but Kate realizes that she can't remain shadowless for long and that the stranger's intentions are darker than she could have ever imagined. This is the book of adventure and magic. A book of prejudice and revenge. I like this book but it wasn't my favorite, it made me cry in one part.

For Parents: This has some violence in it 13+.
